Description
This creature is so bizarre that when scientists first went to examine it they thought it must be a hoax! This crazy creature is only found in Australia and is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal. Egg-laying mammals are known as monotremes and are some of the very few mammals that do not give birth to live young. Listed as near threatened, these crazy creatures are luckier than some. They are protected in Australia so they have managed to avoid the worst of human activity. Yet habitat loss from human expansion, water pollution, and climate change is still a very real threat. As part of the series ‘Come out for a better tomorrow’, this platypus is climbing out of a manhole, forcing us to remember its existence and asking us to work together to save it. This sculpture series calls for awareness of our impact on the world and to allow every living creature the right to feel safe and loved.
